Natural Disasters in North Korea Contribute to Food Shortage, Risks for Disease

During 1995 and 1996, during severe flooding in the North Korea, 186 people died, 550,000 persons were displaced, and an estimated 1.2 million tons of crops were damaged.

In conjunction with systemic economic problems in North Korea, these natural disasters have been associated with reports of a severe ongoing food shortage and increased risks for disease.
