Adolescents Know Little About HBV Risk Factors

Although they have little knowledge about hepatitis B virus, adolescents will comply with the three-dose vaccine series when cost factors are eliminated.

This was the finding of researchers from Nashville, Tennessee's Vanderbilt University who surveyed adolescents and their parents regarding their knowledge and perceived risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV), as well as their potential compliance with an HBV vaccination series.

More than one million people in the United States have chronic hepatitis B infection, and approximately 4,000 to 5,000 deaths each year result from long-term hepatitis B infection.
