According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 13th Annual Clinical Virology Symposium and Annual Meeting of the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology, held April 27-30, 1997, in Clearwater Beach, Florida, "Objective: To develop and apply RT-PCR for diagnosis of CTF in acute clinical specimens. Methods: RNA was extracted from multiple CTF virus isolates and related viruses by using a QIAamp viral RNA extraction kit. These were subjected to a RT-PCR method developed for use with ds-RNA, and amplicons were detected by using ethidium bromide-containing 1.5% agarose gels.
