According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 13th Annual Clinical Virology Symposium and Annual Meeting of the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology, held April 27-30, 1997, in Clearwater Beach, Florida, "Introduction: An outbreak of Infectious Mononucleosis was diagnosed in Dec. 1996 among the staff at Cherry Point Naval Hospital based on fever, sore throat, lymphadenopathy, atypical lymphocytes, and/or a positive Mono-Lex Test. However, a review showed that an undetermined number of the antibody tests had been performed incorrectly, invalidating the prior testing.
