Overall resistance to both isoniazid and rifampin, defined as multidrug-resistant (MDR-TB) tuberculosis, was 2.2 percent during the period from 1993 through 1996, while resistance to isoniazid alone was 8.4 percent.
Although the CDC statistics are generally good news to TB researchers, one ominous finding was that MDR-TB has now spread widely throughout the United States.
