Resistance to Rifampin Alone On the Rise

Monoresistance to rifampin appears to be growing more common, and is often associated with HIV infection, according to a report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Los Angeles County Department of Health.

The report was presented by researcher Susan Ashkar and colleagues at the 1997 Infectious Disease Society of America Annual Meeting, held September 13-16 in San Francisco, California.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis with rifampin monoresistance has been uncommon, but now is being seen with increasing frequency.
