According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 37th ICAAC, held September 28 - October 1, 1997, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "Objective: To estimate Pneumococcal (Pnc) disease burden in the childhood population and the financial commitment to incorporate a Pnc conjugate vaccine into the Expanded Programme on Immunization. Methods: A Markhov model was constructed to evaluate impact of Pnc-conjugate vaccine on the burden of Pnc disease for the 128 million surviving infants in each annual birth cohort from developing countries.
