Genital Herpes Considered as Omniferon Disease Target

Viragen, Inc., Plantation, Florida, and its subsidiary, Viragen (Europe) Ltd. announced that they are placing genital herpes on fast-track consideration as a primary disease target in their global clinical development strategy for Omniferon, the company's second generation natural alpha interferon.

The company said it is intensifying its consideration of genital herpes as a result of a new study released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which suggests that 45 million Americans alone are infected with genital herpes, although only 9 percent of the study participants knew they had the...
