New York Officials Trace 11 HIV Cases to One Man

Health officials in western New York state said an HIV infected man had spread the infection to at least 11 people, some of them unwitting teenagers with whom he traded drugs for sex.

A total of 98 people are under investigation for having had sexual contact either directly or via a third person with the 20-year-old infected man, Health Department officials in Chautauqua County, New York, said.

Twenty-eight of those cases involved women who were exposed directly to the man. He was diagnosed as having HIV a year ago, officials said, and had received counseling to help him cope with his diagnosis and understand the risk of transmission.
