Study Examines Psychological Effects of Pediatric HIV

A recent article reviewed available literature and data on the psychological aspects of HIV as a chronic disease in the young.

As the adolescent infection rate increases and the afflicted now live with the disease longer and longer, "this illness and its victims present a continuing challenge to the medical community," said A. Stolar and F. Fernandez of the Suncoast Medical Clinic, department of psychiatry, in St. Petersburg, Florida ("Psychiatric Perspective of Pediatric Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection," South Med J, October 1997;90:1001-1016).
