Results of HCW Risk Studies Differ

Published in Medical Letter on the CDC and FDA, November 17th, 1997

Two studies examining health care workers in countries endemic for tuberculosis have come to very different conclusions regarding risk factors for TB infection in this group.

One found age to be the only significant predictor of tuberculosis infection status among hospital employees in endemic countries; another found age irrelevant.

Both reports were presented at the American Society for Microbiology's 37th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), held September 28 to October 1, 1997 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
