Since December 23, 1997, 106 such transfusion reactions in 74 patients in 14 states have been identified, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia ("Adverse Ocular Reactions Following Transfusions - United States, 1997-1998," Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report [MMWR], January 30, 1998;47:49-50).
