According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 50th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Blood Banks, held October 18-22, 1997, in Denver, Colorado, "Background: A nationwide CJD Lookback Study, designed to collect outcome data for recipients of blood components from donors who later developed the fatal neurological disease, is now in its third study year. Methods: Recipient identifying information, provided by consignees of single-donor components, is submitted annually to the National Death Index PLUS which provides vital status and cause-of-death.
