ZStatFlu Test Able to Detect Fatal Hong Kong Virus

The bird-flu virus that killed six people in Hong Kong and set off a mass extermination of chickens and other poultry can be reliably detected by the ZStatFlu influenza test, officials at the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, confirmed.

ZStatFlu, the first point-of-care test that can quickly and accurately diagnose all strains of influenza A and B, was successfully tested in March 1998 on isolates of H5N1 Hong Kong Flu (bird-flu) stored at the CDC.
