According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases, held March 8-11, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, "Objective: Although fluoroquinolones are recommended for treatment of gonorrhea, gonococci with decreased susceptibility and resistance to fluoroquinolones have been reported. We report trends in the prevalence of N. gonorrhoeae with decreased susceptibility or resistance to ciprofloxacin in the U.S., 1990-1996.
