Experts Say Americans Need More B Vitamins

Eating your greens may not be enough - all Americans need more of the B vitamin folic acid than previously recommended and need extra help getting it, the U.S. Institute of Medicine said.

It said people were unlikely to get enough of the vitamin from food and should take either supplements or eat specially fortified foods such as breakfast cereals.

"This is the first time a recommendation has been made for intake other than from natural foods for a significant portion of the population," Dr. Robert Russell, Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, told a news conference.
