That's the question CDC researchers asked: and too often the answer was "Give antibiotics."
A CDC poll of primary caregivers for children younger than four years - 88 percent of whom were mothers - found that while they knew antibiotic overuse could lessen efficacy, they were confused about their appropriate use.
"This information should be considered in designing interventions focused on caregivers to decrease inappropriate antibiotic use for managing upper respiratory infections," said M.J. Trepka of the CDC and the Wisconsin Division of Health.
