North Carolina Is Getting Its Money's Worth on Vaccines

North Carolina's practice of buying almost all vaccines distributed to doctors' offices and public health clinics across the state has been a wise investment, a new University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill study concluded.

Comparable programs in other states may work well also, but have never been studied carefully, according to one of the researchers.

"North Carolina's universal purchase program has had a significant positive impact on immunization rates, especially for children with inadequate insurance for well-child care," said Dr. Gary L. Freed, associate professor of pediatrics at the UNC-CH School of Medicine.
