"Epidemiology of Smear-Negative, Culture-Positive Tuberculosis in the US, 1985-1996."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the American Thoracic Society, 1998 International Conference, held April 25-29, 1998, in Chicago, Illinois, "Objectives: Characterize cases of sputum smear-negative, culture-positive (sm- cx+) pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) reported in the US, and compare them with smear-negative, culture-negative (sm- cx-) cases. Methods: All cases of pulmonary TB with results of both a smear for acid-fast bacilli (AFB) and a culture for M. tuberculosis from sputum reported to CDC from 1985-1996 were analyzed.
