CDC Shows Allergic Reactions Linked to Vaccine Gelatin

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed a suspected link between gelatin-containing vaccines and allergic reactions.

Isolated case reports suggested a link between gelatin, used to stabilize some vaccines, and severe allergic reactions.

"We assessed this association via a case-control study nested within the Vaccine Safety Datalink's (VSD) cohort," said CDC researcher Vitali Pool.

Pool reported the results of this investigation in a presentation to the First Annual Conference on Vaccine Research, held May 30-June 1, 1998, in Washington, D.C.
