Official Warns Against Complacency in HIV Prevention

Two decades after the AIDS epidemic erupted worldwide, one of the biggest challenges today may be combating complacency in HIV prevention, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"We cannot confuse progress with victory - this epidemic is far from over," said Helene Gayle, MD, MPH, director of the CDC's National Center for HIV, STD & TB Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Gayle made her remarks at an American Medical Association media briefing at the 12th World AIDS Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
