Increasing Drug Resistance in Developing Countries Threatens Public Health

Increasing drug resistance in developing countries, which contributes to escalating drug resistance worldwide, has complex causes and requires a multifaceted solution, according to an article in an upcoming issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID), a journal of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In developing countries, which typically have a high incidence of infectious diseases, the antibiotics used to combat diseases - as well as inadequate sanitation, hospital infection practices, and knowledge of local drug resistance levels - are contributing to an increase in drug resistance.
