Transfusion-transmitted malaria (TTM) rarely occurs in the United States; however three cases of complicated Plasmodium falciparum infection - two of which were fatal - were reported during 1996-1998, noted M.W. Mungai, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia, and colleagues.
