House Subcommittee Urged To Fortify Response To U.S. Veterans Needs

In testimony provided before the U.S. Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans Affairs, and International Relations of the House Committee on Government Reform, the American Liver Foundation (ALF) called for increased research and a fortified infrastructure to help strengthen the current U.S. Veterans Health Administration program aimed at meeting the needs of U.S. veterans affected by hepatitis C.

One in 10 U.S. veterans are infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), a rate five times greater than the 1.8 percent infection rate realized among the general population. Most of the 4 million people in this country who have hepatitis C are unaware that the disease...
