U.S. Administration Seeks Global AIDS Initiative

Published in Medical Letter on the CDC and FDA, August 9th, 1999

U.S. president Bill Clinton's administration, along with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, director of the U.S. Office of National AIDS Policy Sandra Thurman, members of the U.S. Congress, and leaders of the African-American, religious, children's, and AIDS communities, is seeking a U.S. budget increase in the global battle against AIDS.

U.S. vice president, and year 2000 presidential hopeful, Al Gore also unveiled a report from the Office of National AIDS Policy that assesses the AIDS crisis in Africa and recommends this investment. In addition, he announced efforts to encourage other public and private entities across the world to address global AIDS.
