Immunoassay Confirms Presence of Antibodies to T. cruzi

A recombinant peptide antigen line immunoassay may be the first commercial assay to reliably confirm the presence of antibodies to Trypanosoma cruzi, the protozoan parasite that causes Chagas' disease.

Walter M.R. Oelemann and colleagues working in Brazil evaluated a line immunoassay (INNO-LIA Chagas Ab [INNO-LIA], Innogenetics N.V., Ghent, Belgium) for the serologic confirmation of Chagas' disease ("A Recombinant Peptide Antigen Line Immunoassay Optimized for the Confirmation of Chagas' Disease," Transfusion, July 1999;39(7):711-717).
