In Minnesota and North Dakota in the U.S., four cases of MRSA infection have been identified among children who did not have established risk factors. All four children died; a seven-year-old girl, a 16-month-old girl, a 13-year-old girl, and a one-year-old boy.
Traditionally, these infections have been restricted to patients with serious medical problems, recent or current hospitalization, or residence in long-term care facilities.
