On August 17, 1999, the FDA issued a guidance as a precautionary measure in which blood centers were asked to exclude potential donors who have spent six or more cumulative months in the United Kingdom between January 1, 1980, and December 31, 1996.
Blood collection centers in the United States are expected to implement the new guidance over the next six months, which means that by February 17, 2000, all centers will have implemented the deferral...
