Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus

Findings Will Help in Developing Safer Vaccine

Researchers from England reported research findings that will aid the understanding of the appropriate immune response profile against airborne Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus.

The live-attenuated vaccine (TC-83) for Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) virus is known to protect against subcutaneous and airborne infection, noted S. J. Elvin and colleagues.

Elvin et al. reported that the optimal dose of vaccine required to protect Balb/c mice against aerosol infection with virulent VEE was defined, and the immunological parameters were measured in protected mice.
