Epilepsy Foundation Applauds Clearance for Zonegran

Citing its recent report on the large number of people still having seizures despite the treatment they are getting for epilepsy, the Epilepsy Foundation welcomed news of the regulatory clearance of Zonegran (zonisamide), a new anticonvulsant medication.

The medication has just received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance as add-on therapy in the control of partial seizures in adults aged 16 and above with epilepsy.

According to a three-year national cost of epilepsy study released earlier in March 2000 by the Foundation, more than one million of the 2.3 million Americans with the disorder have persistent seizures, despite treatment...
