Campaign Improves Handwashing Compliance

A recent study found that when health professionals participated in the development of a persuasive campaign geared toward handwashing, that their actual rate of handwashing increased significantly.

Although handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infections in hospitals, the compliance rate is usually no more than 40%, according to M.L. Queiroz and colleagues. For this reason, they designed a study to assess handwashing behavior among health care workers (HCWs) in an adults' ICU at a private teaching hospital.
