Circulating Genes in Hong Kong Poultry are Similar to Those in 1997 Outbreak

Fowl in Hong Kong continue to carry avian influenza viruses that have genetic similarities to the virus that caused the well-known human and chicken virus outbreak in 1997, report U.S. Department of Agriculture researchers. A.N. Cauthen, in the Department's Southeastern Poultry Research Laboratory, Athens, Georgia, led a team of investigators who based that conclusion on an analysis of cage swabbings obtained from geese in Hong Kong.
