Couple Jailed for Falsifying Drug Results

A husband and wife involved in testing a cancer drug have been sentenced to prison for falsifying results that helped the drug win U.S. government approval.

The man was sentenced in federal court to three years in prison and his wife to 2-1/2 years for conspiracy, mail fraud, and making false statements to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They were also ordered to make restitution of $26,000 to the FDA.

A jury in March 2000 found that the couple falsified data from clinical trials conducted between 1994 and 1995 on BCX-34, an experimental drug to treat psoriasis and skin cancer.
