The man was sentenced in federal court to three years in prison and his wife to 2-1/2 years for conspiracy, mail fraud, and making false statements to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They were also ordered to make restitution of $26,000 to the FDA.
A jury in March 2000 found that the couple falsified data from clinical trials conducted between 1994 and 1995 on BCX-34, an experimental drug to treat psoriasis and skin cancer.
