CDC Forecasts Top Ten Challenges of 21st Century

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlined what it believes are the top 10 public health challenges the United States must address and says the tools already exist to combat them, in a commentary published in the October 4, 2000, issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association.

Jeffrey P. Koplan, MD, MPH, director of the CDC, and David W. Fleming, MD, deputy director for Science and Public Health at the CDC, wrote the commentary. Fleming presented it at a JAMA media briefing in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 3, 2000.
