Lack of Folic Acid Continues to Cause Preventable Birth Defects

Despite clear-cut evidence that folic acid supplementation prevents two severe birth defects, not enough is being done to educate women and to fortify the American diet, declared birth defects authorities in a commentary in the October 2000 issue of the journal Pediatrics.
