In Seattle-King County, Washington, data were collected on 716 injection drug users (IDUs) who had entered methadone treatment with regard to their injecting habits, compliance with and retention in treatment, and their hepatitis B and/or C status. Questionnaires were completed at the start of the study and again at 12-months follow-up. Blood samples of IDUs in treatment were tested for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
