Hepatitis and Rubella Screening Policies Not Always Followed in Hospitals

Some hospitals do not always screen pregnant women the way they should prior to and following delivery, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologists stated recently in the American Journal of Infection Control.

Major policies designed to protect the health of women and their unborn infants have been in place for years. Two of those policies are not being followed in a majority of instances, investigators said.

"It is recommended that all pregnant women be screened for hepatitis B surface antigen during an early prenatal visit and that rubella vaccine be administered in the postpartum period to women not known to be immune,"...
