Alcohol Use and Hepatitis C Common to Youth who Inject Drugs in California Study

Public health epidemiologists in Los Angeles, California, have found alcohol use and hepatitis C to be highly prevalent in young people who use injection drugs in Los Angeles County.

Attendees at the 128^th Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association were told that several risk factors stand out in young people who begin using injection drugs in Los Angeles County.

The epidemiological study included a diverse group of individuals, most of whom were under the age of 25. Males, whites, African Americans, Hispanics, Asian, and Native Americans were represented in the study population at rates of 61%, 59%, 5%, 11%, 2%, and 3%,...
