No Solution In Sight For Shortage Of Vaccine For Military Personnel

The prospect of a major U.S. military campaign against terrorism comes as the Pentagon grows ever closer to running out of vaccine for the deadly anthrax virus.

Pentagon officials declined to say how many doses of the vaccine they have left following cutbacks ordered last year to conserve supplies. "I'm not going to talk about it," said Pentagon spokesman Jim Turner.

But with the sole manufacturer awaiting federal license approval, the supply problem has remained unresolved for well over a year. The Pentagon originally wanted to immunize all 2.4 million members of the active and reserve military against anthrax, which is a naturally occurring...
