BioPort May Resume Vaccine Production By End Of November

A Michigan company that has failed to meet federal standards should be producing more anthrax vaccine by the end of November, federal officials said.

Still, they added, there are no plans to offer the vaccine to people outside the military, laboratories and others who come into regular contact with the bacteria.

Federal officials hope to vaccinate around 800 lab workers. The military is running out of stockpiled vaccine and wants to buy more. The sole supplier - BioPort Corp. of Lansing, Michigan - has been out of compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards since 1998.
