Every Third Case Of California AIDS Occurs Among Latinos

One in every three new AIDS cases in California occurs among Latinos, says the state's highest health official, and may be linked to higher AIDS numbers in Mexico.

New findings also reveal that Latinos appear less likely than other groups to practice safe sex and avoid drug-related needle sharing, says Diana Bonta, director of the California Department of Health Services.

Bonta, speaking as the United States and other nations marked December 1, 2001, as World AIDS Day, says the disease is spreading throughout California and Mexico.
