WHO starts testing program for HIV/AIDS in Afghanistan

The United Nations health agency says it is planning to survey the level of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases in Afghanistan and encourage testing of donated blood before transfusions.

"There is little information on the number of HIV and AIDS cases in Afghanistan nor among the refugee population in neighboring countries," the World Health Organization said.

The results of the survey will be used to create a national plan of action for the control of the diseases.
