Researchers examine nonmosquito transmission of West Nile

U.S. public health experts will take a closer look this year at the role organ and blood donations, mother's milk, and people who work with the West Nile virus play in the spread of the virus.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to expand its Internet reporting system, and asks health officials to monitor and report cases of the virus, Anthony Marfin told a national West Nile conference.

"This year, the reason why we know about these things is everybody is communicating," said Marfin, of the CDC's vector-borne disease division.
