The deficiencies highlighted by the research are important, said the authors, because sport is a major cause of injury among 11- to 18-year-olds, with 20% of injuries occurring in physical education classes. Other research suggests that one in four school injuries is serious, such as a fracture, dislocation, or brain injury.
