New, patented laser needle receives clearance to market in U.S.

Trimedyne, Inc., (TMED) has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance to market its patented UroMAX Side-Firing Laser Needle for use with its Holmium Lasers for the vaporization of tissues in urology; orthopedics; gynecology; ears, nose, and throat surgery; gastrointestinal surgery, and general surgery.

The new device is designed to enable a urologist to vaporize tissue of an enlarged prostate in about 5 minutes, which would make Trimedyne's procedure the shortest of any procedure for such application.
