Multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae reported in Hawaii

Multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae with decreased susceptibility to cefixime was reported in Hawaii in 2001.

According to recent research from the United States, "We report four urogenital Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates recovered from three patients that demonstrated resistance to penicillin, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin and reduced susceptibility to cefixime."
