North Dakota officials eye prescription drugs from Canada

North Dakota state officials are looking into the possibility of going north of the border to buy prescription drugs from Canada for public employees and retirees.

That adds North Dakota to a growing list of states looking at ways to buy U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) -approved drugs from Canada.

An Associated Press survey of comparable U.S. and Canadian prices for 10 popular drugs found the Canadian prices were 33% to 80% cheaper. Congress is debating whether to allow Americans to import drugs from Canada and other countries where governments have imposed price controls.
