More evidence needed for "salt assault"

More experimental evidence is needed to convince scientists and the general public that high lifelong sodium intake speeds cardiovascular aging and reduces life expectancy, concludes a new study.

"Only then will our public officials be persuaded to pass legislation to reduce the salt content of processed foods," said Geza Simon, MD, PhD, of the Hypertension Clinic at the VA Medical Center, Minneapolis. He noted that the range of habitual salt consumption in highly civilized societies is between 4 and 12 g a day.
