Federal appeals court upholds dismissal of Zoloft lawsuit

Pfizer, Inc., reported that a federal appeals court has affirmed the dismissal of a lawsuit involving the company's SSRI antidepressant medicine Zoloft (sertraline HCl).

The lawsuit was originally ordered dismissed by the U.S. District Court in Kansas in 2002. The plaintiffs appealed this decision to the federal appellate court for the Tenth Circuit, which filed its opinion on February 4, 2004.

The case involved a 13-year-old boy who had been diagnosed with depression by a psychiatrist and treated with Zoloft for 6 days, and then either intentionally or accidentally killed himself.
