Monoclonal antibodies to B. anthracis capsular antigen developed

Researchers have developed monoclonal antibodies to Bacillus anthracis capsular antigen for immunoprotection in anthrax and detection of antigenemia.

According to recent research published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, "Bacillus anthracis is surrounded by an antiphagocytic polypeptide capsule composed of poly gamma-D-glutamic acid (gamma-DPGA). Gamma-DPGA has been identified recently as a potential target for vaccine development.
